At work we are promoting a showing of The Shining at a nearby Jail on Friday the 13th. My design idea wasn't exactly scary but I enjoyed illustrating anyway. I'm going to rent this movie, because it's probably been about 10 years since I've seen it and i'm super intrigued.
It was overwhelmingly lovely spending time with you. I will try to remember what we spoke about and what I needed to post, but in my jet-lagged haze i do recall telling you about these incredibly adorable prints. The animal print shop is amazing and the best place to find a lovely baby present. So, so cute.
My eyes popped out of my head when I discovered Andie's Specialty Sweets on etsy. If I could do it all over again, I would have had hundreds of these edible mushrooms at my wedding. I sent some magical mushrooms to Dana and look forward to sending some special treats to you and Gabi too...;)
George Chamoun does some very interesting work. Among his other bizarre and fascinating pieces are these Iconatomy collages... He isn't making any comparisons between the amalgamated stars, just very interesting how similar famous faces can be. I thought it was rad. Also, among his other thoughts and random bits and pieces is this piece of awesome:
My friend Tab makes neon dreams. She takes some pretty sweet photos and is having an exhibition tonight...I'm very excited to see her work and to celebrate with her. She is also a cat lover and once we had a play date with Stevie and her siamese cat, Buddha. It didn't work out.
A friend of mine is in a band called 1929 Indian, and she asked me to Art Direct the band's cd artwork. We decided to go into a dream / surreal-esque direction and a friend of mine, Sean, shot what was in my mind. Ruth is in the band and is also the girl in my dreams;) This was a really fun project in so many ways. I made the starfish headpiece with a few friends and also laced up those branches. I'll be sure to post you an album when it's out.
I am very proud of this. As a contributing writer, photographer, and designer of issue eight, this has been my most ambitious project of the year. It felt like I crossed the finished line when I received the physical magazine in my hands last week.
The issue has gotten a thoughtful review by writer/designer/illustrator Nancy Smith on the Rumpus blog. Huge thanks to Chris of Annalemma for encouraging me to take a shot at writing and for giving me the chance to be published. Get your issue here.
