Textures & Patterns

I am feeling inspired and replenished after a visit to Miami Beach. Wonderful friends, delicious food coupled with the smell of the sea while submerged in a horizon. aah! I was mesmerized by the coral walkway of my friend's apartment. Miami Beach was essentially built on coral and with other c-lettered words. Dense ficus bushes created a tapestry for private little gardens and I blew lightly on my cappuccino as the balmy gulf stream breeze broke apart the sky.

Owls & Lungs & Snakes. Oh My.

I am working on a project for a health company who wants a logo with an anotomical person. I stumbled on nfctd a while ago and would love to derive some aspects from it somehow...I'll see what I can do. {Please don't log onto this site after midnight when youre all alone and the glow from your screen is the only light on. * also, a hint: you have to find the right object to move onto the next screen.trust me, it's worth it}

Loverly

There is this amazing Australian brand called "Lover" that speaks our language. Fluently romantic with subtle accents, every time I get involved in a conversation with this label I fall deeper in love.

Happy Earth Day!

Here are a few links to some earth-conscious organizations that have been inspiring my creative direction as I begin my first collection of dresses.

Floralia and Therapy

This is a label I designed recently for a woman who does it all. A massage therapist and aromatherapy guru, she has a line of oils we are branding and one really good thing about doing design for trade in this case is my hunched little back will be getting really happy really soon. ;)

Daunting Beauty

Philipp Zurmohle is an artist I came across while seeking inspiration for a brand called "cocoon" i'm working on. His illustration is just what I needed. Published in his Generate Magazine , I think you will also find some pieces to make you go "Ooooh". x ( There's an illo of Matthew Barney he did, too. ;)

It's getting brisk. And as I am sitting here I am wishing my toes and heels were covered in amber and cream stripes or turquoise polka dotted socks. Not only are these socks outrageously nice, but the composition of the photos remind me of Jen.

The Beautiful Bat

Her voice was like rose-fragrance waltzing in the wind.
She seemed a shadow, stained with shadow colors,
Swimming through waves of sunlight. . .

Outside In

Seasonal change is slight in Florida but things are sure growing quickly as the rain visits more frequently. A veil of dense greens and fuchsia embrace the sides of homes and street lamps. I have been thinking of ways to bring this enthusiasm into my home. I figured I would start small and then let the magic begin.

Little Morbids

Although the majority of my time is spent looking at and admiring really beautiful and dreamy illustrations, sometimes you come across something so ridiculously dark yet somehow humorous, you just have to share it. M. Mararian has created a series of illustrations called "Inky Dreadfuls" and they are indeed dreadful & shocking yet I couldn't stop looking. These are two examples from the "Phobia" section - Fear of the color Yellow and Fear of Clouds. Who knew?
I'm curious as to how you'll take them... xo

Her Folk Lover

Alex, I could not help but think of you when I saw these collages by Catherine Campbell. She is an artist based in Melbourne and I would not be surprised if you have already fallen in love with her work. I can't wait to see what you are up to!

The Rain Can Stay

Well, it's turning into Autumn and has been raining for what seems like days. But I don't mind. I like hybernating inside sometimes. I just make a messy pile of paper and magazines and pencils and scissors, and bury myself into some art. Cute prints by Blanca Gomez at The Shiny Squirrel. {and posts of some of my work to come soon...} xo
