More Margaret

Margaret Durow's work ignites the same inspiration I feel when I stumble upon a collection of old slides – a nostalgia that is not mine but I still long for and cherish. It was really amazing to use her photography in the story You Will Be The Living Equation by Amber Sparks. Content is of course the key to my inspiration when developing a thoughtful design for each story in Annalemma magazine. Their pairing resulted in a rich narrative that clings and releases simultaniously.

Annalemma Issue 7: Endurance

I think this is the best one yet. The theme of Annalemma Issue 7 is Endurance. It's a special issue because we have teamed up with the community of Eatonville, Florida, one of the first African American townships in the US. This issue reflects the legacy of Zora Neale Hurston who grew up in Eatonville and made the town the historical site it is today. Many of her writings including the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, take place in Eatonville. Ted Hollin's, who has been photographing the annual ZORA! festival of art and culture for 22 years, contributed incredible documentary photographs. If you are in Central Florida join us November 12th at the Zora Neale Hurston Museum 6-8 p.m. for the realease party!

I must say there is stunning photography in here this time: Margaret Durow, Nina Hartmann, Jesse Hlebo, David Potes, Rose Wind Jerome really make my job easier. And I am so happy to say this: I'll have a copy for you when you are here in December! Woop! xo

In Bloom

Recently I was asked to do some props for a photo shoot with my friends at Abicus for a local newspaper called Reverb. It's a pretty rad magazine and I was incredibly honored. The really amazing part of this was to see my sketches become a reality, with the help of the fabulous Jaime Brassil, our lovely models Ruth and Mitch {of horselove fame} and of course, the crew here at NDD HQ. The issue comes out on the first of November, I'll scan some pages and show you next week how it all turned out. I think we ended up having ten really great shots in the end!
