Performance

“I look for something else, The possibility of making them feel what each gesture means internally. Everything must come from the heart, must be lived.” - Pina Bausch

"No single label will do. Ms. Bausch was not just a green artist protesting the desecration of the environment (though that was a powerful element in her works) or a feminist depicting the opposition between women’s pain and their social conformism (though that was evident) or an expressionist emitting rage at aspects of the socio-political status quo (though the intensity of that feeling was unmistakable). In some of her pieces she seemed to be celebrating the charm of the world, not just mourning its erosion. And she was often funny."- Alastair Macaulay of NYT

Performance, especially dance theatre, is a curiosity and love that is indescribable for me as I am still learning about my fascination with the art form. Pina Bausch had a profound influence on many choreographers including one of my favorites, Sasha Waltz. I am deeply grateful for her life work and her inspiration.

Not sure if the two ever met but I think MJ and PB would been have been an interesting team up. Might have been like a sexy shamanistic experience, lots of colors and lights moving repetitively forming a manifestation of the human condition. ok, maybe not but I think our generation has a few hard acts to follow.

Building Homes

"We are building homes for them" is what she told us. Stacks and stacks of drawers towered from floor to ceiling. I thought at first I was in an art gallery but we had accidently walked into her storage space next to her store schubLaden. Love the tableaux. Love Berlin.

5 Days In San Francisco

San Francisco and all its goodness treated me to a magical 28th birthday. My mom and I  spent most of our time laughing and walking in circles. We must have had 4 different maps, both of us insisting we knew where we were. It was a hoot! And I got to spend some qt with my dear friends Adam, Stacy, and Randy. So much love and fun! We stayed at the Hotel Rex again ; )

Sasha Waltz and Guests were incredible, at some point my eyes were a little watery.
Blue Bottle Coffee makes the best cappuccinos outside of Europe,
William Kentridge at the SFMOMA blew my freaking mind.
Benzinger Biodynamic Winery has amazing permaculture. Located in Sonoma.
Curiouser, I tripped over some sidewalk curb art, what a pleasant surprise!
Ferry Plaza Market, fiddlehead ferns anyone? I hope this little girl doesn't grow up and hate peaches. She was like: yeah, yeah, I am cute. Sure, take a picture.
(oh! and check out her cute apron ladies! and of course gentlemen who grill pizza)

Why do cigs have to look so darned sexy?

I find it interesting when I run into beautiful photographs of women smoking.I delve into this fantasy of it being beautiful, romantic, chic, sexy and defiant. The smoke sometimes plumes into these magnificent clouds and I have to stop the madness before the eagerness to pick up such a sweet and deadly addiction takes over me.

Stacey Mark is a photographer I think you'll enjoy. Just keep those rolled beauties pure. *wink*

Freedom

I first saw her picture in a Burmese restaurant. There must have been about 20 surrounding us; all hung with flowers & prayers. It saddened me to read this news today.
